NNP / Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (Richmond, VA)

NICU: 40 bed LIII (Single Room Design); Regional Referral Center; Teaching Facility.

Does ECMO & Cardiac; about half of ECMO cases are NICU; rest PICU; NNPs “can” manage the ECMO kids

40% of patients are LBW or VLBW -Practices Developmental Care -Delivery Service: approx 225 to 250/mo (NNPs do attend HRDs)

Avg NNP caseload fluctuates between 1-6 (mix of intensive and intermediate kids).

NNPs develop the care plans for their kids vs being told how to manage them

Transport: they have a separate transport team but NNPs can do it if they choose to…NNPs are NOT required to do transport.

Current team of 5 NNPs currently -Shifts: mostly M-F/Days (8aish to 4pish) with shared night and weekend coverage; Self Scheduling in 1 month block. Multiple NNPs on duty, per shift.

Facility is academic teaching center

NNP role is NOT 100% clinical; they do have dedicated non-clinical time: >Committees >Consultant >Research >Bereavement >Transport >Education

Ideal setting for new grads: very experienced in hiring and training new NNP grads to be successful

Program/staff supports flexibility between work and personal lives

Free tuition (including PhD level)

Facility is very pro-research

Open to new ideas…”we can help you with your dreams and visions here”!

Excellent relationships between/amongst NNPs, Neos, RN Staff (Neo Staff are all aware of their skills/abilities and promote independence.

I am about to retire from the AF in less than 2 yrs. I am currently stationed at Langley AFB Virginia. I have been an AF Nurse (RN) for 12 yrs and a Level 3 NICU nurse for 8 of those yrs. I have my Certification in Neonatal Nsg (RNC) since 2005. I am an NRP regional trainer. I was a transport coordinator and transport Nurse for approx 6 yrs. My goals are to obtain my NNP before I retire. What do you have to offer? Any recommendations
    Thanks for your time
