The Cerebrovascular Center of the Neuro Institute currently has an opening for an acute care NP to collaboratively manage critically ill patients in their Neuro ICU. This CNP will be part of a multi-disciplinary care team caring for patients with a variety of neurological and neurosurgical disorders.

Monday- Friday, days.

JOB SUMMARY:

Nurse practitioners in the critical care role provide advanced nursing care to patients with complex, acute, critical and chronic health conditions including the delivery of acute care services. Practice with a variety of specialty-based populations including neonatal, pediatric, and adult. May include the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to manage acute and chronic health problems and promote physiologic stability. Skill set dependent upon the specific patient population and specialty-based area of practice. Critical care nurse practitioners practice in settings that require complex monitoring and therapies and high intensity nursing interventions, including interventions to support the patient with rapidly deteriorating physiologic conditions. Demonstrated ability to utilize the electronic medical record.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s or doctoral degree preferred. Demonstrated mastery of nursing concepts and principles and abilty to identify and use appropriate concepts and principles from related sciences; e.g. behavioral sciences and biological sciences. Excellent analytical and decision making skills are required. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work as a member of a multi disciplinary team.

Demonstrated competency and the ability to perform advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment plan development and invasive procedures as per clinical privileges.

Two years of current clinical experience in clinical nursing. Registerd Nurse currently licensed in the State of Ohio. National certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner required. • Approximately 4,200 deliveries yearly with plans to exceed 5,000 deliveries annually over the next 2.5 years

• 2 NNPs on service for days, one NNP coverage at night

Role Variations

• High risk deliveries attendance by NNPs and NICU team
• Low risk deliveries attended by NICU team

SITE #2:

• 14 bed Neonatal intensive care unit with potential to expand to 20 beds in the respite nursery
• Credentialed to care for uncomplicated 28 weeks gestation infants and older
• Surgical patients and those requiring advanced respiratory support (NO or oscillator) are transferred out
• Approximately 3,600 deliveries annually
• NEODATA electronic documentation

Role variations:

• Attend 80-100 deliveries/month. The delivery team is comprised of a NICU RN and NNP, with RT support for preterm deliveries and when requested
• Provide additional support for pediatricians, including consults and well baby exams when the pediatrician is unavailable
• Respond to neonatal codes and consultations in the ER
• Responsible for some staff education including mock codes and classes as well as informal bedside teaching
• Infants less than 37 weeks or less than 2500g are admitted to the nursery under pediatrician care for an observation period. Following admission, they are either admitted to Neonatology service or returned to the MBU under the care of the attending pediatrician
